Callan knew that the larger the voltage in the secondary depended on the speed with which he could change the current in the primary. He invented a repeater using the escapement mechanism of a grandfather clock.It was a “make and break” device.The faster he rotated the escapement the quicker the make and break the larger the voltage in the secondary.This was first contact breaker ever made
